Here are the latest news and updates for the Third Sector Forum from Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire

  1. This will be the final TSF update of 2011. The TSF Team, and all at Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire will close for the Christmas break at 1pm on Friday 23rd December, and reopen at 9am on Wednesday 4th January 2012.
  1. Get Online @ Home – This is a RaceOnline2012 initiative that is offering refurbished Windows 7 PCs and a range of Microsoft software, from £95 for charities or individuals in receipt of certain benefits, or £165 for anyone else.

  1. Comic Relief Launching Financial Inclusion Fund for Older People: The new fund – Managing Money Better – will open early in 2012 to support projects helping older people (aged 65+) to cope with the harsh economic climate and financial exclusion and hardship. There will be two grant cycles, one in January 2012 and another in April.   1. The Social Enterprise Exchange will take place on Tuesday 27 March 2012 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow. Early bird bookings are available till December 31st. Further information is available at www.socialenterpriseexchange.com
  1. Scotland’s only direct wheelchair access tandem bikes are now available in East Renfrewshire. They are part of a fleet of 10 specially adapted cycles at the Barrhead Centre. The special tandem transporters, which have three wheels, enable a cyclist to pedal while a passenger in a wheelchair can be carried on an attached platform.

    So that all disabled residents of East Ren can benefit from these cycles, the service users’ committee have set up ‘The Barrhead Mellow Velo Club’ and are inviting the wider disabled community to join in, and take part in regular cycle outings. The adapted bikes, were bought from the Dutch manufacturer with a £10,000 Lottery (Awards for All) grant.
  1. Signs4Life have set up an introductory workshop in Disability Awareness to help staff to communicate and engage with their disabled colleagues, service users, students and clients in Paisley. The Disability Awareness event will be taking place on Tuesday 24th January 2012 at Renfrew Carers Centre, Unit 55, Embroidery Mill, Abbey Mill Business Centre, Paisley (PA1 1TJ) from 9:30am-12:30pm.

  1. Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland (CBCS) in partnerships with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde provide support to carers, both pre and post bereavement, within a group setting. The groups will commence in January 2012 on the second Thursday of each month between 6.30 and 8.30pm at Sandlers Cottage. A flyer with further information is attached.
  1. The Energy Bank: How to maximise your energy resources and save money for your business – Eglinton Arms Hotel, Eaglesham, 12th January, 6.30-8.30pm. Further information about this East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce event is attached.
