Community organisations and volunteers in rural East Renfrewshire can now take advantage of free weekly drop-in advice sessions in Eaglesham.
The sessions are run by the Rural Outreach team from Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire, and take place at Eaglesham Bowling Club every Monday from 12pm – 4pm.
Peter McGhee, Organisational Development Worker, will be available at the sessions to provide information and advice to local community groups. Peter said:
“We can offer advice on a wide range of issues, such as setting up groups, writing or reviewing constitutions, sourcing and applying for funding, and keeping good financial records.”
Harry Balch, Volunteer Development Worker, will be offering advice on volunteering and developing volunteer opportunities. Harry said:
“If you’re interested in volunteering I can help you to find rewarding and enjoyable roles in your local area. I’ll also be delighted to work with local groups to identify where they might have volunteering opportunities.”
The Rural Outreach Project has been funded by the LEADER programme, which delivers support for rural development by implementing local development strategies. LEADER funding comes from the European Union, and is distributed as part of the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP)
Ruth Gallagher, Third Sector Manager at Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire welcomed the start of the sessions:
“We’re delighted that the funding from LEADER East Renfrewshire allows us to reach out to rural communities. We offer support, training and advice to local Third Sector organisations, and volunteering support to individuals all across East Renfrewshire.
In the past a small percentage of our support work has been taken up in the rural communities. We’re now able to ensure that these communities are not disadvantaged by their location, and they are able to access the services and training required to meet the needs of their local area.”
