John approached Voluntary Action in April 2009. He was already at college, but was looking for something to do over the summer break.
After having a chat with Voluntary Action staff, where they explored the nature of the opportunity John was seeking, John was taken through the registration process, and staff began to look for suitable opportunities.
John was placed with BCTV Green Gym, a national organisation that inspires volunteers to improve their health and the environment at the same time.
Once placed, John enjoyed working with experienced leaders who guided him through a range of practical projects, giving him the opportunity to tackle physical jobs in the outdoors. This boosted his practical skills and confidence, as well as giving him the opportunity to interact socially with other people.
John said:
It's the best thing that ever happened to me. You can talk to people that help you get what you want. Everyone at Voluntary Action was very nice and helpful. I love it.
Julie Wilson who runs the Green Gym said
It's great that John is here. He is a proper part of the team.
